Course types
CUBEC - Centro Universale del Bel Canto offers three types of course:
Master Classes for opera singers for the duration of one week and taught by Mirella Freni.
The master classes give students the opportunity to check and improve their technical and vocal skills and also to experience for the first time, the teaching methods of Mirella Freni. This would be the starting block for further study during the academic year.
Annual academic courses from November to June, with Mirella Freni as the principal instructor.
Courses are organized in eight-day blocks every month to allow students to maintain any other pre-existent employment commitments.
The annual academic course is based on a core curriculum and ongoing course of study that focuses on developing vocal technique and interpretation of the repertoire, plus five further curriculum subjects to develop all aspects of a fully-formed professional opera singer.
This course furthers the integration of CUBEC courses with ministry-approved Advanced Vocational Training in Art and Music ones, and as well as expanding a student's personal abilities and knowledge, it also provides an opportunity to obtain recognized university qualifications for the studies completed.
Courses for Piano Accompanists taught by Paola Molinari
The course for piano accompanists was set up to generate a pool of young school-trained musicians able to work as part of their CUBEC course and build up the necessary expertise to find employment in opera theatres. In this course, students will study the repertoire, practice piano accompaniment of singers and gain a first-hand experience of working in theatrical production.
In some cases, the instructors will work out a personal coaching programme that takes into consideration the time requirements and artistic needs of the student in order to better tutor their artistic development.
